I am in Infront of my Parental home in Allahabad, India. It looks almost the same as it was built, but now it’s not our home someone else is living here.
I really don’t know who is living in this house now. We sold it almost 10 years back and didn’t know who lived here.
I wanted to knock on the door but somehow lost all control of my hand. I thought to check with neighbours as they may recognize me and help to introduce me to the homeowner.
Suddenly the door opened by itself, and a mid-age person told me we didn’t need any salesperson. I spent most of my life in this house, and a small glimpse of our drawing room gave me new life.
I told that person, sir, I need your help, and the person replied with carelessness. No, we don’t give any charity. Please go to next door.
Although I should feel wrong about his reply, I was still smiling as standing in Infront of my house and watching my old room from outside.
I told that person, sir, wait, and please allow me some time to explain as I am not asking for any monetary help but want to see your home.
The person has now replied reluctantly that our home is not available for rent and maybe check the next home as they have some rental room available.
Now I collect myself and am told this home is my parental home. I was living here with my parents and brothers and sold almost 10 years back.
He was listening to me now, and then I started feeling some tears rolling from my eyes. He allowed me to come inside, and then all memories started coming into my mind.
My grandfather built that house in the name of my father, and it was modified by my father as well. I spent almost all my life s critical moments here.
Lost my grandparents and father in this house. Marriage of my brother’s sister and myself, and many birthday parties. My Son s first Pooja, and so many memorable moments are running through my eyes.
We had a small temple in our Aangan, and isolated to all rooms has not changed at all. I removed my shoes and sat down there for a moment.
This temple plays a significant role in our life as it teaches us essential discipline. My grandmother taught us that you need to make sure you will do Worship daily after your bath.
Thakur ji needs to take bath daily, and once you light Diya, only you can eat. I followed her always to Satsang in my childhood days, and to date.
I always follow her to complete my daily pooja before starting my day. We all have more faith in this temple. God fulfils all my wishes here, from good numbers in high school to an H1B visa.
kitchen has also not changed at all, although my mother’s food smell is missing from there. I remember when my mother was cooking, and the exhaust was not working properly
she was sweating entirely, and we thought one day we would clean this exhaust so that it would work properly.
There was a stair connecting the second floor and our top floor. Those were the places where we sometimes hid during childhood play.
I went straight to the top floor and forgot it s not my home now. When I reached there, it looked like everything had changed in the neighbourhood. My home looked small compared to my neighbour Mishra Ji’s home, but it gave me the same feeling like we were playing cricket on the top floor and requesting everyone to throw our ball from bottom to top. The same kind of fear that we needed to finish our batting before Mummy started calling us or Papa s scooter would come.
We never know in our life when the time will come to say Good Bye to our own things in our lives. Otherwise, we can stay for some time and capture everything before saying Good Bye. I don’t know when I actually left home as when I moved for study and job connection was there, and we always mentioned the permanent address the same. I was thinking all those things then suddenly, I realized someone was touching my shoulder and saying, it’s time to go, sir, now it’s very late. I said, give me some more time, but soon I realized it was my son Atharva trying to wake me from my dream and saying it was time to wake up.
