My favourite Teacher
I was selected for a dance performance with 2 other kids in an interschool event. So it’s a big event as we need to perform outside of our school. The dance Teacher is one of the most admired in the school, and everyone respects her a lot as she has the most beautiful voice. School starts with her voice as she sings a beautiful Prayer and plays Harmonium as well. We called her Didi ji, and if Didi ji selects you for any performance, that means a lot to any student at that time. Sometimes it’s more than achieving any award as well.
Didi ji knows me very well as my two brothers were the school’s alumni. However, still, that was not easy for me, but I passed an audition and got selected among some kids.
This was an achievement for me. However, there was an issue as dance performances require trousers as well. It was a Puppet dance and need to wear Khaki trousers. During rehearsal, the Teacher asked me to arrange before final practice. In our home, extra circular activities are not very encouraging, so I thought if asked to arrange something, then it would be rejected. Now I am in a dilemma regarding how to communicate this at home. One day I told my mother that I was selected for one Dance performance, and everyone needed to come and see my performance at Lajpat Rai school.
I am still not able to communicate that I need something else, as well as if they will stop me from joining this.
I got the idea that If I tell the teacher that I will arrange on practice day and on that day will say sorry, she won’t have any choice but to replace me.
Practice sessions were going as expected. However, my fear is increasing daily that I should tell her the truth and how she would react. I don’t want to lose this opportunity and lose my courage as well.
Finally, the performance day came, and we reached school for final preparation. She asked me where is your trouser for the performance, and then I was standing still and not reacting to anything.
Tears were rolling from my eyes, and I felt no voice coming from my throat. She kept looking at me, then she opened a packet and gave me a pair of trousers.
She had already realized it for a long time and waiting for me to tell her the truth but didn’t want to embarrass me at all. She arranges trousers from another student for my performance. She put her hand on my head and told me I should be truthful to my loved ones and not worry about opportunities.
Now be ready for performance and don’t be nervous on the stage and in case you forget any steps then watch my eyes. She was the best teacher in my school days (This was the story of the 4th class), and I did not get a chance to thank her then.
We performed well on the stage, and my family came to see me. Everyone enjoyed my performance, and that incident gave me good learning for life.
